Raqami: A Pixelated Font for Modern Editorial Design

There’s a quiet moment in the editorial process when you know a design is taking shape—when the right font falls into place like a missing piece of a puzzle. Recently, I found myself choosing a cover font for a lifestyle blog redesign, and Raqami caught my eye. The word Raqami means “digital” in Arabic, and its pixelated look immediately felt modern, fresh, and aligned with the tone of the project.

A Visual Character Rooted in Digital Rhythm

Raqami is an Arabic display font that carries a distinct visual character. Its pixelated structure gives it a digital edge, yet it maintains a sense of balance and readability that makes it more than just a novelty. Each letter feels intentional, with sharp edges and clean lines that echo the aesthetics of early computer graphics but with a refined touch. This rhythm of precision and simplicity makes it ideal for projects that want to communicate a modern, tech-savvy vibe without sacrificing elegance.

The font has a personality that leans toward the playful yet professional. It doesn’t scream for attention, but it does stand out in a way that feels purposeful. This makes it particularly well-suited for use in blog headers, magazine covers, or even chapter openers where a bit of visual flair can elevate the content without overwhelming the reader.

Real-World Applications in Editorial Layouts

I tested Raqami on a few different layouts, including a recipe ebook and a printable planner. In both cases, the font performed exceptionally well as a title font. For the recipe ebook, I used Raqami for the main headings, and paired it with a clean sans serif font for body text. The contrast worked beautifully—it gave the pages a modern feel while ensuring the instructions remained easy to read.

In the printable planner, Raqami was used for section headers and event titles. Its pixelated style added a subtle digital twist that resonated well with the theme of organization and productivity. It wasn’t too bold to distract from the content, nor too minimal to fade into the background.

For pull quotes and decorative accents, Raqami offered a unique opportunity to add visual interest. When placed strategically, it helped draw the reader’s eye to key points without disrupting the flow of the layout.

Readability Across Mediums

One of the most important considerations in any editorial project is readability. Raqami, while expressive, is not overly complex. It performs well on screen reading, especially at larger sizes, and maintains clarity across mobile layouts. When exported to PDF or printed, the font holds up nicely, making it a versatile choice for both digital and print materials.

However, it’s worth noting that Raqami may not be the best fit for long-form content or dense paragraphs. Its expressive nature works better for headlines, titles, and short bursts of text. Using it for body copy could risk reducing readability, especially for audiences who prefer simpler typography.

Font Pairing and Practical Considerations

When working with display fonts like Raqami, pairing them with a complementary serif or sans serif font is essential for maintaining visual hierarchy and reader comfort. For example, pairing Raqami with a classic serif font like Georgia or a modern sans serif like Helvetica Neue creates a balanced editorial layout that feels both contemporary and trustworthy.

Before using Raqami in any commercial project, it’s important to check the included styles, alternates, ligatures, weights, and multilingual support. Also, ensure that the licensing allows for use in ebooks, templates, printables, or digital downloads. These practical considerations are crucial for designers and publishers who rely on reliable design assets.

Raqami is a display font that brings a unique blend of digital aesthetics and editorial appeal. Whether you’re redesigning a blog header, crafting a newsletter graphic, or building a course PDF, this font offers a modern solution that supports both creativity and readability. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about creating a publication that feels intentional, cohesive, and engaging from start to finish.
